Chewy Oatmeal Cookies

Classic chewy oatmeal cookies with the perfect tender texture. Customize with your favorite add-ins like sliced almonds, coconut flakes, or chocolate chips for a cookie that's uniquely yours!

Instructions

  1. 1

    Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine shortening, packed brown sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla extract.

  3. 3

Beat at medium speed until well blended and creamy.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.

  5. 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, beating on low speed just until blended - don't overmix.

  6. 6

If desired, stir in your choice of add-ins: sliced almonds, coconut flakes, and/or chocolate chips.

  7. 7

Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.

  8. 8

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly browned around the edges but still soft in the center.

  9. 9

Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes to set, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

  10. 10

**Pro Tip:** For the chewiest texture, don't overbake - the cookies should look slightly underdone when you remove them from the oven. They'll continue to cook on the hot pan!
