Homemade Popcorn

Perfectly popped, buttery homemade popcorn that's better than store-bought! This simple stovetop method gives you fluffy, crispy kernels every time. Customize with your favorite seasonings for the ultimate movie night snack.

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat the oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot with a tight-fitting lid over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

Add 3-4 popcorn kernels to the oil and cover the pot.

  3. 3

When you hear the test kernels pop, the oil is hot enough. Remove the pot from heat briefly.

  4. 4

Add the remaining popcorn kernels in a single layer, cover the pot, and return to medium-high heat.

  5. 5

Gently shake the pot back and forth over the burner to keep the kernels moving and prevent burning.

  6. 6

Continue shaking until the popping slows to about 2-3 seconds between pops.

  7. 7

Remove from heat immediately and let sit for 30 seconds to allow any remaining kernels to pop.

  8. 8

Carefully remove the lid (watch for steam!) and pour the popcorn into a large bowl.

  9. 9

Drizzle with melted butter and toss gently to coat.

  10. 10

    Season with salt.

  11. 11

Serve immediately while hot and crispy!

**Pro Tips:** Don't lift the lid while popping - the steam helps pop all the kernels! For extra buttery flavor, melt butter with a pinch of salt before drizzling.
